Parents Survey 2014 Results

23 October 2014

Dear Parents

July 2014 Parents Survey

Thank you once again for taking the time to complete and return the surveys to school. We had 178 surveys returned. Overall the majority of parents are happy with the experience their child has while at Hurst Green. I hope you find the results informative.

When looking at the children’s favourite subjects, PE and maths followed by literacy, art and topic were favoured by them. It is particularly pleasing to see PE is a strong favourite in the light of the extra funding for PE in school, where we have secured the services of Mrs Baker from RB Gym and Sports Ltd and the children are gaining a lot from her lessons and input and making good use of the sports hall.

The following areas were included in the comment box at the end of the survey:-

  • Homework and in particular the extended projects which some parents have said can be quite onerous especially if you have been away on holiday. I have asked the staff to lengthen the timescale for completion of the work and limit the number of projects during the year.
  • Keeping parents informed – we are trying hard to let you know if your child is in a support group, be it social, sport, maths, English, reading groups, having a reading or numeracy buddy either by letter or one to one discussion. Additionally we communicate events and activities via the school website, ‘A’ boards outside school and class displays on windows about meetings, performances, class assemblies and so on.
  • Bullying in school – there has been a heightened awareness since we trained the Year 3-6 children as part of the anti-bullying ambassador project. The KS2 children have worked very hard to sort out problems before they escalate. We always encourage children to talk to an adult at home or at school if they are encountering problems in school with other children. We are here to support the children.
  • Behaviour awards – through school each year group has its own rewards/sanction system from using stickers to starry night and golden tickets. I have asked staff to let you know via the curriculum letters which system they are using each term and to explain what things children need to do to achieve these awards.

July 2014 Children’s Survey

Children also completed a survey in July 2014 the results of which the staff were given for each year group so that they can enhance the positives and work on the ‘even better if’ such as more art, PE, maths, special time and have a class pet!

I have included a summary of the replies for each question on the next page for your information. Thank you for your continued support.

Yours sincerely
