Reading

Children in Reception will read with an adult weekly during their guided reading sessions. Every Friday, your child will bring home a new reading book. Our expectation remains the same: children should read at least three times per week, with each reading session recorded in their reading diaries. Please ensure the book is returned each week so it can be exchanged for a new one. Additionally, your child should bring their book bag to school every day, as reading days may vary.

Remember to give them lots of praise – celebrate their successes! If they encounter a word they can’t read, encourage them to decode (sound it out) and blend it. After they have finished, take some time to discuss the book together.

Your child will also bring home a “reading for pleasure” book. This book is meant to be shared and enjoyed together; there is no expectation for them to read it independently.

PE

PE will take place on Friday mornings. On this day, please ensure your child comes to school wearing their PE kit and trainers. Our PE kit consists of black shorts (no logo), a black t-shirt (no logo), plain black jogging bottoms, and a plain black crew-neck sweatshirt or school jumper. PE kits will be worn for the entire day.

For safety reasons, no jewellery should be worn, and long hair must be tied back. Please ensure that all uniform items are clearly labelled.

Forest Time

Forest School takes place on Monday afternoons. To keep your child comfortable and safe, please make sure they come dressed in plain black jogging bottoms, and a plain black crew-neck sweatshirt or school jumper and suitable footwear.

Don’t forget to clean those Wellington boots before sending them in – this helps us keep the classrooms mud-free!
