What have we been up to in Year 2?
Summer Term
In Maths, we have been focussing on Fractions, Time and Position and Direction. Through interactive activities, we have developed a better understanding of the use of fractions, how to tell the time to 5-minute intervals and the practical advantages of understanding position and direction.
In Science, we have been exploring the key features of plants and discovering what helps them to grow and thrive. We have enjoyed planting our own beans and taking care of them using our knowledge of what we know a plant needs to survive!
In English, we have continued to strengthen our Clever Writer skills throughout the year. We are now applying everything we have learnt and are excited to showcase our confidence and creativity in our final pieces of writing.
Reading is a huge passion for us all in Year 2! Here are our reading spine books for this half-term.
In Topic, we will be answering the Big Question: "How do journeys connect places around the world?" We will find out how maps represent different places through direction and the journeys we take to connect places together. We will also explore the human and physical features of places.
Spring Term
In Maths, we have been focusing on multiplication and division. We have taken part in practical activities to help our understanding of our timetables and how to use division correctly.
In Science, we are exploring the key features of coastlines and exploring what makes the seaside such a special place.
In English, we are constantly developing our Clever Writer skills. We are looking forward to learning some new skills to make us even better writers!
We love to read in Year 2! Here are our reading spine books for this half-term.
In Topic, we have started to answer the Big Question: "How did life in Britain change under different Monarchs?" We will be focussing on different Queens and the impact they had on Great Britain.
World Book Day
We had a wonderful time celebrating World Book Day! We dressed up as our favourite book characters and enjoyed many fun activities throughout the day. Have a look at an example of our fantastic hand-drawn picture of Claude.
Autumn Term
In Maths this half-term we have been focusing on place value. Here is some practical work that we enjoyed!
In Science, we have been carrying out some practical activities to learn about things that are 'living', 'dead' or have 'never been alive'. We enjoyed working in groups to enhance our scientific knowledge.
In English, we have explored a variety of stories and developed our Clever Writer skills. At the end of the week, we produce a 'Star Write'. Here is a fantastic example!
We have enjoyed reading our reading spine books this half-term. Here they are.
The Great Fire of London has been our focus in Topic. We have explored and identified what lessons were learnt from the Great Fire of London and the impact this had on the city.
