What have we been up to in Year 3?

Spring

Today, we had an amazing World Book Day in Year 3!

We focused on the wonderful author Zanib Mian and explored some of her fantastic stories. The children shared their favourite books with the class and talked about why they love reading so much.

Everyone also made their own reading pledges, thinking about how they can read more and try new books. We then got creative by redesigning book covers, showing off our brilliant ideas and artistic skills.

One of the most exciting parts of the day was “Drop Everything and Read” — every time the bell rang, we stopped what we were doing and picked up a book!

In English, we wrote a detailed set of instructions explaining how a body was mummified in ancient Egyptian times.

In Maths, we have been exploring measurement by learning how to measure and draw lines accurately in centimetres (cm) and millimetres (mm).

In Art, we created papyrus-style paper using strips of paper and PVA glue, layering them in a criss-cross pattern to replicate the traditional ancient technique. In our next lesson, we will be adding our own designs to complete our artwork — stay tuned!

Here are our brilliant Reading Spine books for this term! We have been enjoying them during our Ten Magical Minutes reading time, and the children are absolutely loving the stories so far.

Autumn

We have enjoyed following our new 'I am a Clever Writer' approach. Just look at our first 'Star Write' which was a retelling of The Fox and The Stork.

We had a great week exploring poetry about autumn, then used a range of poetry devices to write a free verse poem of our own!

So far in maths this term, we have looked at place value and addition and subtraction. We are amazing at column method for adding and subtracting!

Our reading spine books for Autumn 1

Our topic this term is the Stone Age to the Iron Age. In art, we created our own cave paintings, using a variety of media.
