Religious Education

Religious Education at Hurst Green is designed in line with the Dudley Agreed Syllabus and helps pupils develop a secure understanding of religion, belief and worldviews. Through the study of Christianity, principal religions and non-religious worldviews, pupils develop religious literacy alongside respect for the diverse communities and perspectives that shape modern society.

Children begin developing their understanding of beliefs, celebrations, special places and different communities in the Early Years through stories, discussions, visitors and meaningful experiences. As they move through Key Stages 1 and 2, pupils build increasingly sophisticated knowledge of religion and belief whilst exploring deeper theological, philosophical and ethical questions.

The curriculum is structured around key strands including Identity & Belonging, Stories & Sacred Texts, Beliefs about God, Worship & Practice, Ethics & Values and Worldviews. Through enquiry-led learning, pupils ask questions, compare different viewpoints, reflect on beliefs and evaluate religious and non-religious responses to important questions about life and meaning.

Through the curriculum, pupils are encouraged to become curious, reflective and thoughtful learners who can engage respectfully and critically with different beliefs, values and ways of life. Religious Education helps pupils understand both themselves and others whilst preparing them to live in an increasingly diverse world.
