Physical Education

Physical Education at Hurst Green is designed to inspire pupils to develop a lifelong enjoyment of physical activity whilst promoting confidence, resilience, teamwork and healthy lifestyles. Through a broad and balanced curriculum, pupils develop physical competence, confidence and an appreciation of the importance of staying active and healthy.

Children begin developing physical skills in the Early Years through Physical Development, outdoor learning and the Balanceability programme. As they move through Key Stages 1 and 2, pupils progressively develop agility, balance, coordination, strength and resilience through a wide range of activities including games, gymnastics, dance, athletics, outdoor and adventurous activities and swimming.

The curriculum supports pupils in applying physical skills with increasing accuracy and confidence whilst developing teamwork, communication, leadership and sportsmanship. Pupils are encouraged to challenge themselves, reflect on their performance and respond positively to both success and challenge.

Beyond curriculum lessons, pupils have opportunities to participate in sports clubs, competitions, festivals and school teams. Through these experiences, pupils develop confidence, resilience and a sense of belonging whilst learning the value of teamwork, respect and healthy living.
