    Reading

Children in Year 2 will read with an adult weekly during their guided reading sessions. Every Friday, your child will bring home a new reading book. Our expectation remains the same: children should read at least three times per week, with each reading session recorded in their reading diaries. Please ensure the book is returned each week so it can be exchanged for a new one. Additionally, your child should bring their book bag to school every day, as reading days may vary.

Remember to give them lots of praise – celebrate their successes! If they encounter a word they can’t read, encourage them to decode (sound it out) and blend it. After they have finished, take some time to discuss the book together.

Your child will also bring home a “reading for pleasure” book. This book is meant to be shared and enjoyed together; there is no expectation for them to read it independently.

    PE

PE will take place on Monday afternoons. On this day, please ensure your child comes to school wearing their PE kit and trainers. Our PE kit consists of black shorts (no logo), a black t-shirt (no logo), plain black jogging bottoms, and a plain black crew-neck sweatshirt or school jumper. PE kits will be worn for the entire day.

For safety reasons, no jewellery should be worn, and long hair must be tied back. Please ensure that all uniform items are clearly labelled.

    Forest Time

Forest School takes place on Wednesday afternoons. To keep your child comfortable and safe, please make sure they come dressed in plain black jogging bottoms, and a plain black crew-neck sweatshirt or school jumper and suitable footwear.

Don’t forget to clean those Wellington boots before sending them in – this helps us keep the classrooms mud-free!

    Spring Term Topic

This term, Year 2 will be exploring “What Makes Britain Great?” We’ll discover fascinating facts about important monarchs and learn how life in Britain changed under each ruler. We’ll also look at incredible inventions and how they improved everyday life. After half-term, we’ll dive into the world of castles – why they were built and whether we still need them today! It’s going to be an exciting journey through Britain’s history!

    Working Together

Have fun and play – learning doesn’t always have to be serious! Keep practising those timetables and spellings to build confidence. Year 2 high-frequency words can be found in your child’s reading diary; these are the words they should be able to read and spell by the end of the year.

Don’t forget to master number facts and times tables! Your child’s Times Table Rock Stars and Numbots login can also be found in their reading diary. You could even practice your child’s awards at home – they’re the building blocks for so much more!

    Club Awards
