At Hurst Green Primary School, we are committed to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion across all areas of school life and to upholding the principles of the Equality Act 2010.
We recognise each child as a unique individual with their own strengths, needs and aspirations. We aim to create an environment where every member of our community feels valued, respected and able to be themselves.
Our core values of Respect, Compassion, Equity, Aspiration, Collaboration and Responsibility guide our decisions and daily practice and support a culture where children feel safe, included and able to thrive.
We recognise the right of every member of our school community — pupil, staff member, parent or visitor — to be treated with dignity and fairness. We work to ensure that no individual experiences disadvantage or discrimination because of a protected characteristic including age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, pregnancy or maternity, or marriage and civil partnership.
In line with the Public Sector Equality Duty, we actively pursue three aims:
We maintain a culture where discriminatory behaviour, prejudice and bullying are challenged promptly and effectively. All concerns are taken seriously and addressed through clear safeguarding and behaviour procedures so that pupils and staff feel safe and supported.
We work to remove barriers to learning and participation. This includes targeted academic support, reasonable adjustments, and careful monitoring of attainment, attendance and participation data so that all pupils are supported to achieve well.
We promote mutual respect and understanding through our curriculum, assemblies and wider school experiences. We actively challenge stereotypes and encourage positive relationships between pupils and adults from all backgrounds.
