    Science at Hurst Green

Science at Hurst Green is designed to develop pupils' curiosity, understanding and appreciation of the world around them. Through practical enquiry, observation and investigation, pupils develop secure scientific knowledge alongside the skills needed to work and think scientifically. The curriculum follows the Plymouth Science scheme and provides a carefully sequenced progression of knowledge and skills from Reception to Year 6.

Children begin developing scientific understanding in the Early Years through exploration, observation and first-hand experiences. As they move through Key Stages 1 and 2, they build both substantive scientific knowledge and disciplinary knowledge, learning how scientists investigate, test and explain ideas.

Practical enquiry is at the heart of learning. Pupils are encouraged to ask questions, make predictions, observe closely, investigate, analyse evidence and communicate their findings using increasingly precise scientific vocabulary.

Through Science Week, STEM activities, visitors and links with local secondary schools, we aim to ensure that all pupils see science as relevant, accessible and aspirational whilst developing a sense of wonder about the natural world and an understanding of environmental responsibility.
