  • PSHE/RSE

PSHE at Hurst Green is designed to support pupils' personal development, emotional wellbeing and understanding of the wider world, helping them to become confident, respectful and responsible individuals. Through the My Happy Mind Plus programme and the wider My Happy Mind mental health and wellbeing curriculum, pupils develop the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to stay healthy, build positive relationships and make informed decisions.

Children begin developing these foundations in the Early Years through Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED), where they learn about emotions, friendships, resilience, wellbeing and belonging. As pupils move through Key Stages 1 and 2, they revisit and deepen their understanding of health and wellbeing, relationships, citizenship, economic wellbeing and personal responsibility in an age-appropriate and carefully sequenced way.

The curriculum is organised around three key strands: myHappyBody, myHappyRelationships and myHappyWorld. Through discussion, reflection and practical activities, pupils learn to understand themselves, respect others, manage challenges, celebrate differences and contribute positively to their communities. British Values, Relationships Education and Health Education are woven throughout the curriculum and wider school life.

PSHE extends beyond discrete lessons and forms an important part of the wider culture at Hurst Green. Through assemblies, wellbeing activities, themed events and everyday experiences, pupils develop confidence, empathy, resilience and a strong sense of belonging, helping them to thrive both in school and beyond.
