Welcome to SEND at Hurst Green Primary School
At Hurst Green Primary School, we are committed to providing an inclusive, nurturing, and empowering environment where every child can thrive, regardless of their individual needs or abilities. Our ethos of respect, compassion, and equity guides our approach to supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Our SEND Provision
We recognise that each child is unique, with their own strengths, challenges, and aspirations. Our SEND provision is designed to ensure that all children receive the support and resources they need to reach their full potential, both academically and personally.
Our SEND Policy, which is aligned with the SEND Code of Practice and other relevant legislation, outlines the framework we follow to identify, assess, and support children with SEND. We work closely with parents, carers, and external agencies to create personalised support plans that address each child's individual needs.
Identifying and Assessing SEND Needs
At Hurst Green Primary School, we have a robust process for identifying and assessing SEND needs. This includes regular teacher observations, standardised assessments, and input from parents, carers, and specialist professionals. We work collaboratively to develop tailored support plans, such as Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) or Individual Education Plans (IEPs), that outline the specific interventions and resources required to help each child thrive.
Types of SEND Support
Our school is equipped to support a wide range of SEND needs, including learning disabilities, speech and language difficulties, autism spectrum conditions, physical disabilities, and emotional and mental health needs. We offer a variety of support mechanisms, such as:
Partnering with Parents and Carers
We believe that collaboration with parents and carers is essential for the success of our SEND children. We encourage regular meetings, reviews, and open communication to ensure that we are working together to support each child's learning and development. We also offer workshops, support groups, and signposting to external resources to empower parents and carers in their role.
Our SEND Team
At the heart of our SEND provision is our dedicated Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo), Mrs Karadia, who serves as the primary point of contact for all SEND-related enquiries. She works closely with our team of teaching assistants, specialist staff, and external professionals to ensure that every child receives the support they need to thrive.
Resources and Accessibility
Hurst Green Primary School is committed to providing a fully accessible environment for all of our children. Our facilities include accessible toilets, sensory and nurture rooms, and special/adapted equipment to accommodate the needs of children with physical disabilities. Additionally, we are a communication-friendly school and use WELCOMM across the whole school.
We also collaborate with a range of external agencies and organisations to provide our families with access to additional resources and support services.
