    Reading

Children in Reception will read with an adult weekly during their guided reading sessions. Our current focus during those sessions is blending. Every Friday, your child will bring home a new reading book. Our expectations are that children should read at least three times per week at home, with each reading session recorded in their reading diaries. Please ensure that your child's reading folder is placed in the box in the outdoor classroom on Thursday morning. New books will go home on Friday. Additionally, your child should bring their book bag to school every day, as reading days may vary.

The children have made a brilliant start to phonics and know many of their sounds. If your child has a wordless book, talk about what they can see on each page. See if they can spot objects that begin with that sound. If there are words on the page, encourage your child to say the sounds in a word and then blend them together. Remember to give them lots of praise – celebrate their successes!

Your child will also bring home a “reading for pleasure” book. This book is meant to be shared and enjoyed together; there is no expectation for them to read it independently. You can change this more frequently using the box outside Apple class.

    PE

PE will take place on Friday mornings. On this day, please ensure your child comes to school wearing their PE kit and trainers. Our PE kit consists of black shorts (no logo), a black t-shirt (no logo), plain black jogging bottoms, and a plain black crew-neck sweatshirt or school jumper. PE kits will be worn for the entire day.

For safety reasons, no jewellery should be worn, and long hair must be tied back. Please ensure that all uniform items are clearly labelled.

    Forest Time

Forest Time will be starting soon.  To keep your child comfortable and safe, please make sure they come dressed in plain black jogging bottoms, a plain black crew-neck sweatshirt or school jumper and suitable footwear.

Don’t forget to clean those Wellington boots and shake out any mud from their bags before sending them in – this helps us keep the classrooms mud-free!
